1 Lemmata sint aquilae cur sic ascripta bifronti, Warum der zweigesichtige Adler eine solche Aufschrift trägt,
aquilae...bifronti
the eagle was sacred to Jupiter, the king of the Olympian gods, as well as a prominent symbol used in ancient Rome. The double-headed eagle (aquila bifrons) was used as a symbol of the Holy Roman Empire.
vocales
the poem's structure relies on the five vowels A, E, I, O, U. We know that Frederick III used an acronym formed by the set of five vowels as his motto, which scholarship has interpreted differently. Before his death, the emperor provided the following explanation: 'Alles Erdreich Ist Österreich Untertan', that is 'The whole world is subject to Austria'.
Prima
that is, A, the first vowel in the alphabet and the initial of the word aquila "eagle".
,
volucrum regina
like the vowel A in the alphabet, the eagle holds a prominent position among the other birds.
the aquila symbolizes both the emperor's and Jupiter's power (cfr. vv. 5-6).
Proxima...electa
that is E. The vowel is contained in the word electa "chosen". The expression caput mundi expounds Rome's prominent role and supremacy. Rome is defined as Martia since Romulus and Remus were sons of Mars and Rhea Silvia.

that is E. The vowel is contained in the word electa "chosen". The expression caput mundi expounds Rome's prominent role and supremacy. Rome is defined as Martia since Romulus and Remus were sons of Mars and Rhea Silvia.
9 Tertia iustitiam divini Caesaris addit, Der dritte bringt die Gerechtigkeit des göttlichen Kaisers ins Spiel,
Tertia iustitiam
that is I, which is contained in the word iustitia “justice”. The emperor is described as a judge, performing his role even better than Minos, the Infernal judge; the expression foci Dictaei indicates Minos’s house, that is the underworld (Dictaeus derives from Mount Dicte, in Crete: Minos was originally the king of the Isle).
Omnia...uincere
that is O and U. O is the initial of the word omnia, whilst U is the initial of uincere; omnia uincere: "to conquer everything".
