This means that a scholar has completed studies in both civil and church law.

2 | Doctus veridico dissolvisse sono; | Rechte mit glaubwürdiger Argumentation zu entwirren;
the expression triplicis linguae usually refers to the three sacred languages Latin, Greek, and Hebrew (cf., for instance, the Collegium Trilingue founded in 1518 in Leuven, where these three languages were taught). In fact, Fuchsmagen is not known to have studied Hebrew. Therefore, Latin and German are probably the languages referred to; in addition, he may have had a poor knowledge of Greek (there are a few Greek texts in his collections of inscriptions). In any case, this statement must be considered a gross exaggeration for the sake of adulation. The adjective expers is erroneously used in the sense of expertus, "experienced", while it in fact means the exact opposite: "having no share in something".

4 | Desidiae, claris sedulus haustor aquis; | Untätigkeit, der eifrig aus den berühmten Quellen schöpft;
Fuchsmagen was well-educated and learned in a variety of fields, such as history, astronomy and geography, and even wrote his own historical works (crf. Ruf 1877, 106-107).
|
6 | Noscat et exiguo ponere cuncta loco; | festzuhalten und auf einer winzigen Fläche alles darzulegen; | pictos tabula qui ducere mundos...ponere cuncta
Fuchsmagen was well-educated and learned in a variety of fields, such as history, astronomy and geography, and even wrote his own historical works (crf. Ruf 1877, 106-107).
|
Ulisses is a traditional paradigm of eloquence and cunning.
|
Menelaus was the king of Sparta, the younger brother of Agamemnon, and the husband of Helen of Troy. Ulisses and Agamemnon are cited here as prominent representatives of two kinds of eloquence: the former to soft and pleasent eloquence, the latter to forceful and overwhelming speeches. Johannes Fuchsmagen repeatedly demonstrated his rhetorical skills as an envoy and legate of the rulers.
