This poem is a dedication of an altar by Pietro Barbo to his uncle, Pope Eugene IV. The man identified as the author of this poem is Jean Jouffroy (†1473), bishop of Arras in northern France (Attrabetensis refers to Artois, the region where Arras is situated), who addresses an unnamed patron. He seems to have composed the poem as an inscription for an altar dedicated by Pietro Barbo (the later Paul II) to his uncle Gabriele Condulmer (Eugene IV).

The poem is not known as a work by Jouffroy otherwise, but he is a plausible author for several reasons: He had a close relationship to both Eugene and his nephew, was in Rome when the former died on 23 February 1447, was a good humanist (while Barbo, the dedicator, was not), and is known as the author of a long list of Latin works, including some poetry. See on him Märtl 1996, esp. 332–351 (Jouffroy’s bibliography). Alternatively, it seems possible that the title actually belongs to another poem.
