Augustinus Prygl/Tyfernus
Biografische Angaben
Augustinus Prygl/Prugel (late 1470s–1537) was a renowned humanist and architect who named himself Tyfernus after the German name of his native town of Lasko (Tuffer) in Styria. He apparently was the first collector of Roman inscriptions in Carniola, Carinthia and his native Styria. His collection is preserved in two transcriptions in three codices in the Vienna National Library (CVP 3528; 3492; 3540). It is particularly relevant because it contains several inscriptions that are unattested elsewhere and provides evidence of the rising archeological research under Maximilian I. Within such context, Johannes Fuchsmagen, who was interested in the texts and originals of Roman inscriptions, probably had a key role in the origin of these epigraphical transcripts, the so-called "Antiquus Austriacus" (for further information see Šašel Kos 2007).
