P. DELIUS VOLSCUS AN DEN GROẞARTIGEN HERRN JOHANNES FUCHSMAGEN, DEN EHRWÜRDIGSTEN RAT DER HEILIGEN KAISERLICHEN MAJESTÄT
MAGNIFICO DOMINO IOANNI FUSMAGEN SACRAE CAESAREAE MAIESTATIS CONSILIARIO DIGNISSIMO P. DELIUS VOLSCUS
Beschreibung
The author thanks Fuchsmagen for an obtained gift, assures him of his friendship and wishes him a long and successful life.
The same poem, except for a few but important changes, is also to be found in a manuscript written in Perugia around 1490 (Perugia, Biblioteca Comunale Augusta, MS C 61, fol. 71v (herafter P)). The manuscript contains an anthology of contemporary poems for Alfano (Severo) Alfani, member of an influencial local family. In this collection there are three poems ascribed to Volscus, including a funerary epigram which can also be found in other manuscripts, an otherwise unattested ode to Innocent VIII, and the poem in question. However, in the Perugia manuscript (a partial copy of which, written shortly after, is now preserved in the Bodleian Library, MS C62), this last poem is dedicated to Alfano Alfani, the addressee of the whole compilation, and not to Johannes Fuchsmagen, and the author's name, instead of being Antonius Volscus or P. Delius Volscus is Delius Volscus Privernas.
