EINE JÜNGST AUSGEARBEITETE HUNDERTZEILIGE ELEGIE DESSELBEN PISO IM GEDÄCHTNIS AN DIE PASSION UND KREUZIGUNG DES HERRN
EIUSDEM PISONIS ELEGIA EX HECATOSTICHO IN PASSIONIS ET CRUCIS DOMINICAE MEMORIAM NUPER DEDUCTA
Beschreibung
The poet addresses the faithful in order to provide a teaching on Christ's passion and sacrifice (1-15). The key concept expounded in the following verses (17-28) is that Christ made his decision to die voluntarily. The next section (29-38), deals with the depiction of Christ Triumphant, providing salvation and redemption, and then expounds three ideas: the link between salvation and original sin (36-98), mankind's creation and salvation (69-88), the possibility of salvation for all mankind (88-98). The final verses (99-100) urge the reader to recall the teaching in order to worship God.
Like the previous elegy dedicated to Fuchsmagen, this poem comprises one hundred verses ("ex hekatosticho") and is followed by an epigram. Milbacher 2014, 13-14, points out that in the second half of the 1490s, Hermann Busche (Buschius) of Leipzig used the "hekatostichon" in three compositions, intitled "De divae virginis Mariae psalterio triplex". These works may have been circulating among the humanists at the University of Vienna, thus serving as a model for Piso's poem. The term "deducta" in the titel is used as synonym for "scripta", 'written'.
